Zur ART COLOGNE 2007 und den Kölner Premieren zeigt die Galerie Boisserée Arbeiten der Künstler Patrick Caulfield, Michael Craig-Martin und Julian Opie, die zu den wichtigen Vertretern der britischen zeitgenössischen Kunst gehören. Die Ausstellung umfasst ca. 70 Exponate druckgraphischer, computeranimierter und am Computer realisierter Arbeiten.
Die Arbeiten erinnern an die stilistischen Konventionen der Pop-Art. Caulfield, Craig-Martin und Opie interessieren sich jedoch weniger für die Themen der Massenkommunikation. Sie interessieren die vielfältigen Möglichkeiten der Darstellung, die ihnen die neuen Medien und Medientechnologien bieten. Sie bedienen sich der Computer, der Mittel digitaler Bildbearbeitung, der vielfältigen Kombinationsmöglichkeiten und nutzen aufwendigste drucktechnische Verfahren. Sie haben eine eigene, universelle Bild- und Formensprache der modernen Welt entwickelt. Es ist die Form, die dem Inhalt seine Bedeutung gibt.
Gemeinsam sind ihren Arbeiten die Reduktion auf das Wesentliche, die Zeichenhaftigkeit, die klaren Umrisslinien, die comic-hafte Linienführung, die klare, monochrome Farbgebung, die fast geometrische Strenge, die unmittelbare Präsenz. Ihre Bilder begreifen das Wesen der Dinge und Figuren in ihrer einfachsten Form. Die Bedeutung wird durch den Kontext, der sie umgibt, immer wieder neu bestimmt. Die so einfach dargestellten Dinge, Räume und Personen sind voller Anspielungen und Andeutungen und immer wieder bleibt es dem Betrachter vorbehalten, das im Werk Angelegte zu ergänzen und zu vollenden.
Zur Ausstellung erscheint ein kleiner Katalog, mit 60 Seiten und ca. 60 farbigen Abbildungen zu Euro 5.
